The short version

Shade is a matter of timing, not coverage.

A pergola in the wrong place gives you shade at eleven in the morning and none at six in the evening, which is precisely when you wanted to sit outside. Orientation and slat direction decide that, and both are free to get right at design stage.

Structurally the concern here is uplift and snow. These are open buildings with a lot of surface and not much weight, so footings and anchoring are engineered rather than assumed.

The first walk-through is how we both decide whether we are the right fit. You get straight answers either way.

What's included

What youactually get.

01

Timber structures

Real posts and beams with joinery detailed to be seen, not clad over.

02

Attached or freestanding

Tied into the house or standing on its own, depending on where the usable space actually is.

03

Adjustable louvre systems

Where you want to control shade and rain rather than accept whatever the slats give you.

04

Engineered footings

Sized and anchored for uplift and snow load at your elevation.

05

Orientation planning

Slat direction and placement set from where the afternoon sun actually falls on your yard.

06

Lighting and power

Low-voltage lighting, fans and outlets run through the structure during build.

Why Bugle

Why hire usfor this.

Anchored for wind

An open structure catches uplift. Footings and connections are engineered for it rather than eyeballed.

Sited for the evening

We plan around the hours you will actually use it, which is rarely midday.

Detailed to be seen

Exposed timber means the joinery is the finish. It gets built accordingly.

Highly recommend Bugle Construction! We had a portion of our large asphalt driveway replaced with exposed aggregate concrete. Tyler D. met with us, understood our goals and design ideas and provided us with an estimate. He was also a very responsive point pe…

I recently worked with Bugle on a covered deck addition to my property. Everyone is stunned by the craftsmanship of the finished product. Pictures truly don't do it justice. Michael set up all the moving pieces for any subcontractors and was transparent and f…

Bugle Construction did a beautiful job with our timber wrap around covered porch, and window eyebrows. We couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out! They started the job in the middle of the winter months and had some zero degree days to deal with. They…

The money question

What decideswhat it costs.

We do not publish prices, because a number without your site behind it is a guess — and the ones you see advertised usually are. Here is what actually moves it, so you can judge any quote you get, ours included.

The site

Access, slope, soil and how far services have to run. Two identical builds on different lots are not the same price, and the difference is decided before anything is drawn.

Size and structure

Span, storeys and roof geometry drive the frame. A simple shape built well is almost always better value than a complicated one built to a budget.

Materials

The same deck in cedar, composite or full PVC covers a wide range. We price the options side by side so the trade-off is yours to make, not ours to assume.

Finish level

Where the money goes once the structure is done. This is the part you can move most, and the part we can phase if it helps.

You do not have to pay cash

Bugle is a builder, not a lender — but Jared Teel and Jason Kuettel are the two local loan officers our clients most often work with, and both are used to construction draws. Their details are published in full.

Pergolas & Gazebos FAQs

Questionsworth asking.

A pergola filters light through open slats; a gazebo has a solid roof and gives real rain cover. If you want to sit out in a shower, you want a roof.
